Re: Macy's

Tomorrow, Friday, March 30, is Palestinian Land Day.

Hundreds of people from around the world - including CODEPINK activist Tighe - will come together to march toward Jerusalem from Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt. The Global March to Jerusalem, endorsed by CODEPINK, is calling for freedom for Jerusalem and its people, to end Israeli policies of apartheid, and ethnic cleansing … and there's something we can do to stand in solidarity.

For Land Day we are asking you to contact Macy's, the department store with over 800 stores across the US, and ask that they stop selling Ahava and SodaStream -- products made in illegal Israeli settlements. Macy's corporate policy statementemphasizes its commitment to social responsibility as well as to respect for the rights and property of others, but there's nothing respectful in selling stolen goods.

Why March 30th? On March 30, 1976 Palestinian citizens of Israel held a general strike and organized demonstrations in protest of Israeli government plans to expropriate Palestinian land in the Galilee. There were solidarity protests in the West Bank, Gaza and in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. During the protests in Israel, six unarmed Palestinians were shot and killed by Israeli soldiers and police. One hundred were wounded, and hundreds more were arrested. Since 1976, Palestinians around the world commemorate March 30th as Land Day, a symbol of resistance to Israel's ongoing land expropriation, colonization, occupation and apartheid.

This year the Boycott National Committee, the Palestinian coordinating committee for the international boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, has called again for a Global BDS Day of Action to commemorate Land Day. CODEPINK's contributions to BDS are our Stolen Beauty Ahava Boycott, which launched in June 2009, and our relatively new Boycott SodaStream campaign. Both Ahava and SodaStream produce their goods in illegal West Bank settlements.

Thank you for being a part of our Land Day action in support of dignity, equality and justice for Palestinians.

Onward,
Nancy, Kristen and Rae
